The doctor of the Italian national football team: 'It is possible that Astori suffered from a pathological disease!'

The Italian 21-year-old national team doctor Carlo Tranquilli has been asked to comment on the sudden death of Fiorentina`s captain David Astori. The 31-year-old defender was found dead in his hotel room hours before his Udinese handball match.

The medical practitioner thinks it is possible for Astorry to suffer from a pathological disease that can hardly be traced to the body`s examination. Control of professional athletes can not completely eliminate the possibility of sudden death. Surveys made to footballers can reduce this to 89%, but not completely. In Italy, we are obliged to provide health information for every professional athlete. This control is much tighter, unlike other countries. There is much more research in our country. Few are global ones that can be compared to Italy. Unfortunately, there are pathological diseases that we can not catch. Athletes under the age of 35 may develop underlying pathological conditions such as hypertrophic cardi omyopathy or arthritis dysplasia. These diseases can be suspected, but they can hardly be captured. `In Italy, athletes are required to undergo research at least once every six months, but again the possibility of sudden death remains, ` said Tranquilli of Gazzetta dello Sport.
