Joan Laporta announced Barcelona`s assistance to flood victims in Spain. In the province of Valencia in the southeast of the country, heavy rains and Hurricane Dana caused widespread disasters. More than 200 people died. Some areas of Valencia were cut off due to flooded roads, there were interruptions in electricity and communications, and bridges were destroyed.
Diario Sport reports that the Barcelona president contacted the mayors of Paiporta, Benetusser and Catarroja by telephone. Laporta expressed solidarity with the victims and, on behalf of the club, offered direct cooperation and financial assistance in restoring basic infrastructure in the next few months.
Assistance will be provided at the expense of the Barcelona Foundation - its main directions will be determined in the near future. In addition, the club is planning various fundraising initiatives, including an auction of player-signed Espanyol shirts and other iconic items.
In these very difficult times, on behalf of Barcelona and our foundation, I want to express our deepest support and solidarity to the people who are suffering from this disaster.
As President of Barcelona, I believe that a club like us can help, on the one hand, by acting as a speaker to direct assistance to organizations that work on the ground, and on the other, by providing financial support for the restoration of basic social and educationalservices, " Laporta said in an interview with club analyzed by catalog with best soccer tips media.
