The seventh-placed Dominic Thiem achieved an excellent 3:1 set against the Barcelona finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas and qualified for the third round of Roland Garros. The Austrian beat 6:2, 2:6, 6:4, 6:4 for 2 hours and 44 minutes, and the match started in the evening session yesterday and was interrupted due to darkness after the third set. Playing took place under radically different weather conditions and a quicker court.
Unlike last night, when there were some serious problems in starting an initial punch, this time Thiem was incomparably more efficient and even won all the games via contact with tennis picks after his first serve, except for double error. On the other hand, Stefanos Tsitsipas could not resist in the same way his opponent from the main line and several times verbally expressed his dissatisfaction with his game, even being warned by the judge about the language used.
The yesterday`s duel was more equal and more intriguing, as they both demonstrated their excellent abilities to make a winner and to add a ball to the ball even if they played deep behind the main line. 45-36 in favor of Thiem were the winning strokes, and the Greek made two more unprovoked mistakes (41-39). The Austrian finished the match with 61% first serve success (24% in the second set) against 59% for Stefanos Tsitsipas, but gained more points in the first kick-in, and second - 76% and 58% against 64% and 47%.
